Pier Attema VIII Celebrate 98th Birthday in Rock Valley

One of Sioux County's oldest nonagenarians, Pier Attema, will observe his 98th birthday Tuesday February 18 at his home 1909 7th Street Rock Valley. He remains active and in good health. His wife died in September 1964. They had seven children all living except Lane who died in 1967, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Most children will attend the milestone.

Businessman of the Week Gene Larson profiles local entrepreneur

Gene Larson born November 2 1992 in Alcester South Dakota rises from Air Force service to manage The Cue in Rock Valley. His wife Pat runs the business with him as they promote family recreation with billiards and coin machines. Soo Choral Festival At Hawarden 17th

The Sioux County Choral Festival will be held February 17 at West Sioux Community High School Hawarden. Attending choruses include Boyden Hall Floyd Valley Maurice Orange City Rock Valley Sioux Center and West Sioux. Each chorus will sing two numbers then join 10 to form a mass chorus of about 400 voices for the afternoon and an evening concert at 2 30 pm in the West Sioux High School Gymnasium.

Ehlen Enterprises of Alexandria Minnesota is the low bidder for Rock Valley’s new post office, with an annual rental of 81 279 on a 61 992 structure. The government will take title on the property and a five year renewal is planned. Demolition of the old building will precede construction, which should finish within one year.

Bus Reborn as Waves Home for Reinbeck Couple

A rebuilt S4 passenger school bus now serves as a unique home for Mr and Mrs Joe Greiner of Reinbeck. They completely refurbished the motor and chassis and converted the interior to sleep six, creating a mobile living space.

Candy Striper Cap Ceremony At Hege Memorial Hospital

Hege Memorial Hospital candy stripers held a cap ceremony on Wednesday February 5 at 430 pm. Fifteen girls from Rock Valley and nearby area received caps in front of the Hospital Auxiliary and their mothers. The group grew from 60 to 7 members since October 1967 due to senior graduation. To earn a cap, each girl must complete 50 hours of service and assist patients. A June ceremony is planned with six more girls to be capped. Mrs Marilyn Linboe spoke, Miss Ethel McKeegan performed the cap ping, and the unit now seeks a chairman to supervise the program. Lunch was served by the stripers.
