John Van Maanien Sheldon of Rock Valley graduated from high school and served seven years in the air force with much time spent abroad. He is married with three daughters Dorma 12 Karen 9 and Cathy 6. The family attends the Methodist church where Mrs Van Maanen is choir director. They will relocate to a new post once housing is ready.
Sioux, Lyon, O Brien and Osceola counties residents are asked to meet in the Orange City court room this Thursday February 3 for discussion. The Sioux county Board of Education will hear arguments for and against the proposed vocational school to be located in Sheldon.
A Rock Valley benefit auction and dinner are planned to raise money for the Dr. LR Hegg Memorial hospital building fund. John J. Thayer of Rock Valley has been commissioned as a U.S. Air Force lieutenant after graduating from OTS at Lackland AFB Texas. The event, set for Friday at 6 30 p.m. at the Rock Valley Sales Company, includes donated items and baked goods. Proceeds support the hospital fund with a goal of 400 000 dollars.
The Rock Valley Rockets won 67 to 55 against Akron but lost 74 to 87 to Hull. Ron Kaufman led scoring with 22 points for the Rockets while Allen Borchers topped Akron with 25 at halftime. Brock poured in 21 for Western Christian.
The second Sabine polio clinic at Haas Hall drew several hundred booster doses on Saturday with a mop up clinic at the Christian school on Wednesday and another planned for today at the public school. The first clinic in December enrolled 1047 people. Local volunteers including pharmacists, nurses and Dr L R Hegg provided services free of charge under Just-A Mere club sponsorship led by Mrs Osborne Liabee and Mrs Al Porter.
Sioux Center burial held at local community cemetery for Mr Bloemendaal who died Friday January 28 after a heart attack at home. He was born April 38, 1917 in Alvord Maliepaar and survived by four daughters, one son and many relatives.
Funeral services for Arthur C Hanson were held at 2 p m Wednesday at Bethel Methodist church with Rev Henry J Geigle officiating. Hanson died Monday in the Veterans hospital Sioux Falls after a long illness. Active pallbearers were Harold Miller Lynn Mather Clifford Gaumer E H Reimers Harold DeVaul and Stanley Porter. Interment was in Richland cemetery under Porter Funeral home direction. Survivors include widow Emma three sons Eldon and Marlo of Inwood and Harland of Hayward California ten grandchildren and one brother Fred of Osage Iowa.

The ensemble, chosen by band directors, will rehearse and perform at 8 00 p m Saturday February 5 in the auditorium Washington High Cherokee under Prof Butler Bitel Macalaster College St Paul Minn Tharry Mitchell directs the local school band.
At the January 31 gathering of Woren of the First Reformed Church and the Methodist Church at Birs Dick Roelofs home plans were laid for the annual World Day of Prayer to be held February 25. Present were Mrs Jeke Vernulm Mrs Henry Poppen Mrs Vern De Jager Mrs Mervin Nelson and Mrs E R Haas.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Miller returned from a jet flight sponsored by the Coopers Cooperative Association. The CCA flew 11 jets carrying over 1,800 co-op leaders to visit its phosphate processing plant in central Florida. The Millers toured the plant and Cypress Gardens and spent a day at the nearby camp, then returned to their Hight home in St Petersburgh.
