Referendum Fails Soil Bank in Five Townships Vote
Ten years back Garfield Rock Settlers Lions and Lincoln townships reject the soil bank with 68 percent needed. In five townships 200 farmers cast ballots, six spoiled, leaving 123 for the soil bank and 66 for the allotment plan. The Orpheum offers its annual free show for Rock Valley youngsters.

Widow benefits misperception addressed by Social Security official
John R. Baldman, district Social Security manager in Sioux City, warns widows that a 1965 law change allows widow benefits for those whose husbands worked under social security. He notes many widows still think they must wait until age 82 to collect widows’ benefits as of the September 1965 update.
