New Three-County Landfill Plan Favored Near Hospers

A Sioux County proposal for a single 169 acre landfill west of Hospers would cost about 212000 and be funded by a 2/4 mill rural levy plus city per capita tax. The plan envisions hauling costs shared among Rock Valley Hull and others, with farmers paying to dump waste and haulers reimbursed 12 cents per ton. repayment via a 6 percent loan over 18 years after initial taxes. Each municipality must vote on the plan before the September 19 meeting of the municipal league.

No Labor Day Celebration Called Off in Rock Valley

Rock Valley will skip its Labor Day program this year due to scheduling issues. IPS To Refund Local Money After Fee Increase Denied

The Iowa Commerce Commission denied IPS a $5 million yearly boost, approving $1.45 million instead. Average refunds of about $41 will be issued to Iowa Public Service customers, including Rock Valley, as excess revenue is refunded. Spirit Lake crash saves life of Klomp and De Wit

Loren Klomp of Rock Valley survives after a one car crash near Spirit Lake on a Tuesday morning. He and passenger Jay De Wit of rural Rock Valley were hospitalized with severe injuries. patrolman Marlin Mossman performed mouth to mouth resuscitation to revive Klomp.
