Rock Valley Community School officials set a public hearing for August 13 at 8 PM at the local school to discuss the proposed 1973 74 budget. The plan shows a 3.5 percent overall rise, with increased costs in fixed charges and operations and maintenance and a larger instruction budget.
Rock Valley grocers report most items available with only isolated shortages such as raisins fish and some beef cuts. Celery shipping strike and crop-processing gaps explain limits while shoppers show little hoarding or price-driven panic. Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz cautions against panic buying nationally.
Postmaster Paul Beamer announces that applications are being accepted and an examination will be given to establish a register of eligibles for future substitute rural carrier vacancies at Rock Valley. Exam will be held at Sioux Falls, with applications due by August 6, 1973.
As of late Monday there were no additional fringe for the local school board election to be held September 11, 1973. Incumbents George Van Beek and Warren Anderton have nomination papers, with a filing deadline at 5 PM August 2. The district areas are the rural area south of Highway 18 and the town area south of Fifteenth Street.
