Roblin Athletes Excel At Manitoba Provincial Cross Country

Roblin and District residents applaud the junior and senior teams after Manitoba provincial cross country finals in Neepawa. Open girls Marjorie Matsyk finished 13th among 50, while boys open runners led by Evans, Thompson and Roblin posted strong scores. The junior girls placed 3rd with 131 points, amid 100 runners. transport support aided the trip.

Agar's Men's Wear Opens In Former Central Bakery

Agar's Men's Wear officially opened in the former Central Bakery building with Mr. Bob Agar as owner and manager. A customer draw on Saturday evening awarded Mrs. Myrtle Turner a Glen Isle sweater and Mr. E Pritchard a sport shirt among other prizes including a Biltmore hat and socks for several winners. Congratulations were extended to Mr. and Mrs. Agar on the new store and best wishes offered for the venture.

Patients Sitting Room Planned at Roblin District Hospital

The Roblin District Hospital board met Tuesday October 26 with ten members and administrator Mrs Edna Sims. They approved September expenses of 4039.87 and opened tenders for an auxiliary lighting plant to be referred to Manitoba Power Commission and Manitoba Hospital Commission for approval. A new weighing scale for patients was to be purchased. A potential move of the kitchen to the basement to create a patients sitting room was discussed needing Manitoba Hospital Commission approval. A Christmas party committee was formed.

Assiniboine Calf Club Holds Meeting at Dropmore

The Assiniboine Calf Club met at Dropmore School on October 25. Officers elected include President Leith Skinner Vice President Donnie Burla Secretary Faye Digby and Treasurer Hugh Skinner. Members are asked to pay fees at the next meeting. The club size this year is 10.

Merridale 4-H Garden Club Holds 9th Meeting at Styba Home

Sixteen members and one visitor attended at Tom Styba’s home on October 26. The group planned a bake sale at Marshall Wells on November 6 and a bingo event at Merridale School on November 12. Members received garden prize money and enjoyed lunch and a game.

Manitoba Premier Roblin highlights low taxes and education push

Premier Roblin outlines four priorities: education, public utilities, road building, and agriculture. He cites a rising education budget from 19 million in 1958 to 57 million in 1965, with tax rebates lowering school taxes for Roblin-area homeowners. Fire Destroys Main Street Building in Roblin

Fire destroyed the building on Main Street housing Eaton of Canada Mail Order and the second floor residence of 91 year old R F Standish. Firefighters controlled the blaze by 11 10 am despite a strong northerly wind. Standish was hospitalized with head lacerations and bruises but is resting comfortably. Water damage affected Kelso’s Meat Market next door. Carol Festival green lit by Roblin group executives.

Town Elects Kostick Nash For Roblin Council

Municipal election results show George Kostick with 237 votes and Wilfred Nash with 190 elected to Roblin town council. By law 606 Sunday Movies passed 318 to 162, four Goose Lake School trustees elected: Allan Martin 350 Stan Safronetz 336 Gerald Harper 323 Borden Hawryluk 310 and Gerald Tait 234.
