Shell River council approves by law and awards measures
The Shell River Municipal Council met October 13 with F H Wilson chairing and Edel Watson and Elder present. Minutes from September meetings were adopted and accounts totaling 20 252 90 were approved. Various road surveys officers salaries and by law changes were discussed including tax exemptions for religious educational charitable and recreational properties. A Prairie Farm Assistance Act benefit was confirmed and the Roblin Chamber award nomination set. The Deepdale School District merger was accepted and a gravel rental agreement was approved with pay rate for a grader operator set. Next meeting scheduled November 3 after the Court of Revision.

Roblin’s regional trade rose from 3 935 000 in 1961 to 5 787 000 in 1964 with a 47 percent increase. The current trading area holds 12 500 residents, and a larger potential area reaches 13 700. Manitoba union certified for Roblin Forest Products Local
On Thursday October 21 the Manitoba Labor Relations Board certified Local 1324 of the International Woodworkers of America ALF of L C I O as bargaining agent for Roblin Forest Products Ltd employees. Union organizer R E Larson spoke of a long campaign and the plan to begin collective bargaining promptly. Local is the first IWA unit in Manitoba to organize unorganized woodworkers in the province.
