Negro Hitchhiker Involved in Fatal Weekend Wrecks
John House, a Negro from Norfolk, rode in a transfer truck that collided head on with an automobile eight miles from Scotland Neck. His sister Christine House, a Tillery school teacher, and Andrew Branch, a Negro, were killed. House was critically injured. The truck was driven by John Lyons of Norfolk. The incident followed four other local wrecks over the weekend. damages were about $4500. Lyons fled the scene and has not been captured.
