Two Million Soldiers May Be Released
The War Department revealed a plan for phased demobilization after Germany’s defeat, targeting about two million soldiers for home return based on long overseas duty and dependent children. The Navy intends continued expansion to 391,000 by next July, with final discharge rates tied to Japan’s defeat and postwar needs. An adjusted service rating card will determine priority of separation using service, overseas, parenthood credits, and war-time decorations.
