Seventeen Food Items Freed From Ration List
War Mobilization Director James F Byrnes announced 17 foods will be removed from the ration list on September 17 allowing jam jelly fruit butter and canned vegetables to be bought without points. An OPA spokesman said point values on other processed foods may rise to absorb the freed blue points. Jones noted the change aims to cut waste and keep perishable foods in use amid war stockpiles and expected German surrender.
