Roanoke Rapids Community Chest secretary H B Speight announced a special Board of Trustees meeting for Monday October 16 at 5 p m in the VEPCO office. The session will set the Chest Drive goal and date after reviewing the budget report by F C Williams and discuss agency needs and past expenditures.

Man Forged Check Arrest in Edenton
Marshall Purvis was arrested and held for Roanoke Rapids Police in Edenton on a forgery charge. He allegedly obtained a government check for 15 dollars on October 5 from Mrs. Lillie Futrell Story and, under false pretenses, forged her signature to cash the check at F. M. Coburn Shoe Store.

Man Drops Dead on Ave in Roanoke Rapids
Ybert L. Wilson, 73, died after a sudden heart attack shortly after speaking with Officer Adams in a Roanoke Rapids street. He lived with daughter Alma Barnes at 653 Williams Street. Funeral held near Littleton with Reverend E. B. Fisher officiating. survived by five sons and three daughters.

Slick Roads Trigger Wreck Injuring Three Men
A wet highway south of Emporia Virginia caused a car to skid and rollover three times. Lonnie Peck of Wilmington sustained a broken collar bone, while 5S Schwartz of Norfolk and Harry Abelovitz received other injuries. All were taken to Roanoke Rapids Hospital for evaluation.

J. E. Davis Stables Opens In Roanoke Rapids
The J. E. Davis stables open next Tuesday attracting hundreds of farmers from Halifax Northampton and nearby counties to Roanoke Rapids for a first farm auction at eleven o clock. Colonel George B Herndon will auction weekly with private sales of horses mules cattle and hogs alongside livestock exchanges and farmer oriented items. The 86 by 70 foot sheet tin barn includes five stalls a feed room and office with pens adjoining and is to host about 125 head of stock under a square deal policy.
