Seventy nine seniors will receive diplomas at graduation in the High School Auditorium next Thursday June 1. The Baccalaureate sermon precedes the exercises this Sunday at 11 o clock with Rev W E Goode of Scotland Neck officiating. Dr Douglass Freeman editor of the Richmond News Leader will give the graduation address. Approximately 173 grammar grade students will finish and advance to the seventh grade next semester.

River search for Roanoke Rapids youth body ends
Russell Lee, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, drowned Sunday while swimming near Rook's Island three miles from the bridge on the Roanoke River. Friends watched as rescuers searched by boat and with long poles, divers recovered the body around noon, and funeral services followed Tuesday afternoon.
