Young Carolina Marine Honored By Nicaraguans

Sergeant Theodore M. Stephenson of Pinehurst North Carolina was awarded the Cross of Valor by Jose M Moncada former president of the Central American Country for leading his patrol into bandit infested jungles of Nicaragua to recover two dead comrades and rescue three lost aviators. The ceremony took place in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Willises announce birth of son Larry Covington

Mr and Mrs Larry Willis announce the birth of an eight pound baby boy on Monday night. The newborn is named Larry Covington. Mrs Willis formerly Miss Mary Dixon. Larry is an employee in the Herald composing room.

A merchant meeting voted to close stores at noon on Wednesdays during June July and August. The plan, already in effect for five years in Roanoke Rapids, aims to give employees an extra holiday and has strong support from local business leaders.
