Fire Destroys Two Old Wooden Buildings in City Block
Two wooden structures at the Hamilton Street and Tenth Avenue corner burned Tuesday night, a garage of R B Purdy destroyed by a blaze of unknown origin. Firefighters fought through the night to save Purdy’s house and nearby properties as the two frame buildings owned by W F Horner were gutted.

Negro Dies From Poison Liquor At Farm Home
The body of Jim Peterson, 25, was found at the home of Robert Ash on Dr. W. E. Murphy's farm near Hornertown Saturday night. Coroner Billy Williams ruled no foul play and an inquest unnecessary. Death likely from poison liquor or acute indigestion.

Father Of H. S. Loy Dies In Burlington
J A Loy pioneer resident of Burlington North Carolina and father of H S and Robert S Loy of this city died at his family home Monday after several days illness. He was a Presbyterian Church member and active worker. He survived his wife by nine months and leaves two daughters and four sons.

Kitchens Funeral Tour Closes Roanoke Mills Overseer
Funeral services were held for Frank M. Kitchens on March 23 conducted by the Masonic lodge with Rev W H Grantham in charge. Kitchens died Tuesday at 6 pm from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after years of ill health. He was a former Roanoke Mills Company overseer, survived by wife Cyrus Kitchens and step-son William Gaylord.

Mill Employee Found Dead in Bed at Home
J. R. Ricks, 51, Rosemary Manufacturing Co. employee, died at his home 1005 Franklin St after being found in bed by family on Tuesday afternoon March 21. He had worked the night shift at the local mill and suffered heart trouble. Coronary thrombosis listed as cause. Funeral Thursday at Hebron Church Virginia with burial there. Survived by wife and several children.
