The North Carolina Corporation orders Seaboard Air Line Railway to install an electric crossing signal at Roanoke Junction Roanoke Avenue Roanoke Rapids. Sacket's Harbor June 8 ceremony at the bride's home united Miss Frances Fuller and Bernard Twisdale with Rev Dr Hakes officiating. The bride wore Georgette and lilies, attended by Grace McConnville and Sergeant Cash. Twisdale served in the 63rd Infantry, from North Carolina, stationed at Madison Barracks last year. They will stay in town until autumn then move to North Carolina.

A small fire broke out Thursday near noon at the Halifax Paper Corporation plant. A blaze was found in the chip conveyor of the pulp plant shortly before 1 PM. Quick action kept the fire under control and damages are expected to be small. Officials believe an overheated motor started the blaze.
William L. Mahaffy and May Garris wed at the bride’s Jefferson Street home in a quiet ceremony led by Rev. Lewis N. Taylor. They plan to reside in Roanoke Rapids where the groom works for Roanoke Mills Co. Mrs. Few and others journeyed to South Carolina for visits and meetings.
The 1920 Chautauqua opened yesterday with a pleasing program. Superintendent Mr. N Reeves opened with a lecture on The American Pulse Patriotis. The Del Mar Quartet followed with an entertaining show and Alton Packard impressed as entertainer and cartoonist. Afternoon program starts 3 30 and evening 8 15, fifth night 8 30. The season ends with next year’s contract signed for 1921.
The Chautauqua ticket sale this year was very successful with multiple groups and captains organizing sales. Roanoke Mills led by Towewee sold 125 adult tickets. Rosemary and Patterson Mills also contributed strong results with teams led by Dobbins and others.
