Two Escape Road Gang Breaks From Prison Camp
Two long term prisoners escaped from a road gang near Murfreesboro at 9 this morning. Raymond Snider from Jacksonville North Carolina and James Edgar Waters from Lincoln County were identified. Snider faces 6 to 12 months and 2 three to five year terms on larceny and burglary. No further reports on capture were available at press time.

A two day eye clinic at Halifax County Health Department examined 73 children. Dr. Matthew S. Broun supervised for the State Blind Commission. 60 needed glasses and two were sent for surgery. The event was sponsored by several local and state groups with follow up planned by Public Health Nurses. Aims include broader, funded vision care for all eligible children and equal access compared with England and other nations.

Flash Wind Hail Storm Strikes Warrenton Damaging Tobacco Crops
A mid afternoon wind and hail storm swept Warrenton and surrounding areas injuring crops and uprooting trees. The Axelle farm of Mrs. Mattie Frazier suffered severe tobacco damage while a barn roof blew off at Tommie Jones in Greenwood. Telephone service was restored quickly and officials assess total county losses later.
