The Red Cross life saving school will be held at Rosemary Hill pool daily next week at 2 30 pm and 6 30 pm. Junior course ages 12 to 17 and senior course 17 and up. Ten hours of instruction required to pass. Interested persons should sign up with the pool lifeguard in charge.
The Rinky Dinks defeated Boykins Severn 2-1 on Saturday behind Lewis Outland who allowed two hits. Hobgood made a notable running left field catch as the team played error free baseball. Boykins Severn hosts the Dinks next Saturday on their home field.
The Pajama Girls beat the Bloomers 9 to 6 last Friday night. Lois Stansbury pitched and Anni Maud Jones caught for the Pajamas while Edna Stainback pitched and A lie Keeter caught for Bloomers. F. M. Coburn has returned from a market trip to Baltimore.
About $200 worth of merchandise was stolen from Max Franks South Rosemary Store last Thursday night in a daring break in. The glass front door was smashed with an old automobile bumper and neighbors near the scene recall a fast moving car. No cash was taken and officers remain in the dark on suspects.
On Thursday July 16 Mrs R T Edmondson of this city received a surprise party at her daughter’s home, hosted by family friends and neighbors. A large cake marked 16 candles symbolized her long life. Attendees included Mr and Mrs J W Taylor, Mr and Mrs Sam Young, Mrs Hal Ross, T M Edmondson, Mrs Fletcher Dickens, Miss Brownie Taylor, Miss Ella Lee Taylor, T B Browning, Mrs Nannie Peele, Virginia and Mary Frances Taylor, and Mrs G W Stinson of Rocky Mount.
Police found a man and woman driving a Ford roadster on a rural route at 4 a m last Sunday dressed only in underwear and shoes with missing clothing items. They faced charges of using an automobile for immoral purposes but were found not guilty by Judge Daniel in Recorder's Court.

The State Board of Equalization has allocated teachers for the next year, with Halifax County receiving 307 posts split 148 high and 259 elementary, including 153 white and 154 colored positions. Three Halifax schools were abolished by consolidation, while statewide 52 high schools and 143 elementary schools were closed to save costs and improve efficiency.
