City Fathers Approve Pool Rooms and Taxi Policy Changes
City board met in the municipal building with members Pruden Collier Starke McDowell Taylor Williams. They allowed second floor pool rooms and froze new taxi licenses until demand requires more cabs, prioritizing licenses for Johnson Cabs and White Way Taxis. A Norfolk engineer reviewed street plans and work to begin soon. A committee of Pruden and Williams will study a city pool project to be built in the evacuated area on Seventh Street.

Rotarians to Stage Air Show at Halifax County Airport
Roanoke Rapids Rotary Club plans a large air show at Halifax County Airport on Sunday July 14 starting about 1 30 p m and lasting about two hours. Copenhaver Brothers run the airport and cooperate with the club in presenting acts by stunt flyers Army blimp and several Army planes may participate. Tickets go on sale Monday at city drug stores with gate sales and parking available for a small fee.

Plane Crash Leaves One Dead Two Injured Near Littleton
A B T 22 open cockpit plane crashed during a rainstorm near a farm in Halifax County half a mile from Littleton. Fred C. Ricker of Landsdale Pa died in Roanoke Rapids Hospital. Charles Hartenstein of Landsdale Pa is in serious condition in Richmond a brain specialist said. The crash is blamed on an insufficient fuel supply and pilot misjudgment of the field.

Spotted Fever Reported in Halifax County Children
Two Rocky Mountain spotted fever cases were reported in Halifax County over two weeks, with one case likely contracted in Northampton County. Both patients were children and one case proved fatal. Recommendations include tick checks, careful removal, washing hands, iodine application, and treating dogs for ticks.

Mrs Mincher Resigns City Clerk Post in City
