Air Show Promises Big Weekend Event at Halifax Airport
The Rotary Club event at Halifax County Airport on the Littleton highway starts 1 30 p m next Sunday and is billed the biggest air show here in years. Army planes from Fort Bragg will perform formation flying and maneuvers while local acts include racing ribbon cutting and nose diving. Advance tickets are available at city drug stores to ease gate congestion and state patrol will manage highway traffic.

About 25 young men organized a Junior Chamber of Commerce in Roanoke Rapids to promote the city as progressive in eastern North Carolina. Roanoke Rapids voters will decide on a 200000 water and sewer bond issue at a special election August 6. Registration runs July 13 through July 27 with daily voting hours 6:30 am to 6:30 pm at three precincts. Negro Jailed For Shooting And Assault
Charley Lawson, 45, held in Halifax County jail on 3000 bond for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He and Bruce Scott entered a Hodgestown store Wednesday evening, ordered beer, and after drinking it, Scott allegedly acted in the incident. Continued on page 12.
