The Roanoke Rapids community mourns the death of T J Rook who died at his home from acute indigestion. He was likely the town’s oldest resident and a longtime figure in agriculture and commerce. Pallbearers named include J K Dickens and S B Pierce, with services led by Revs Lance and Few.

Miss Lizzie Dalton a member of the school faculty was injured when struck by a car driven by Mr Jack Williams Roanoke Fibre Board Co superintendent at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Second Street. A small bone in her ankle was broken and she was taken to Roanoke Rapids Hospital.

The county reports 354 new influenza cases this week, totaling 714 since the epidemic began, with 11 new pneumonia cases and 28 overall. J D Johnson of Rosemary Dead In Uncertain Lineage

J D Johnson aged about seventy died at his Rosemary boarding house after weeks of illness. He left an estate of about 8000 dollars and a house in Rosemary. He spoke of a sister in Pennsylvania but she is not located. Funeral services will be held at the local cemetery. Local notices mention new car dealers from Norfolk and several visitors passing through Rosemary. A World at Columbus show will be at the Rosemary Theatre next Thursday night March 4.

A War Department table dated February 6 1920 shows the 30th Division leading all Allied forces in Medals of Honor with 12 awards, followed by the 89th with nine. The Second Division tops awards overall at 693, with 385 going to Marines or naval personnel. The First Division ranks second with 420 and the 27th with 139. Officers account for 39 percent of Army awards and enlisted men 61 percent, with many medals earned by soldiers who rose from the ranks to commissioned ranks before approval.
