Rosemary residents report visits from Norfolk and Raleigh guests and notes of shopping and social events. The Town hosts a gasoline tank installation at W F Joyner Motor Co and a Christmas Tom Thumb Wedding by Presbyterian Ladies Aid with 60 children.
Discussion of the Halifax County Highway Commission lead by C F Gore outlines a plan to modernize and equip a twelve zone system with fully staffed camps to maintain 700 miles of county roads plus 300 miles of public roads. By Dec 6 1920 the effort employed 75 workers, about one per ten miles, with records open for inspection.
Next Wednesday evening at 7 30 the public is invited to Christmas in Song and Story staged in the School Auditorium under Miss Crisp director of public school music. Children will take principal parts and admission is free.
The Ladies of the Presbyterian Auxiliary express thanks to the Junior Order Woodmen of the World and Order of Red Men for the Saturday December 4 bazaar ball. They express appreciation for the courtesy.
Halifax County officials announce Prof. Akers has been invited to a Daytona Florida conference January 21 24 1921 by the National Bureau of Education. The letter says local funds will cover his trip and urges acceptance.
The Roanoke Rapids band invites young men to join as instrumentalists. Each member receives an instrument, attendance rewards are given quarterly, and an instructor plus rehearsal room are provided. Apply to the secretary for membership.
Inter mediate Girls Class of Smiths Sunday School invites Senior and Intermediate Boy's Classes to a December 13 gathering at 8 o'clock. Local residents Mrs A J Medlin and Mr T J Glover visited Petersburg and Camp Pike Arkansas while others traveled to Henderson for business. South Rosemary School plans a Christmas Tree for 21. the community welcomes all.
Halifax County highway officials ordered immediate building of a road from Roanoke Avenue to Bolling extending Fifth Street. The action followed a committee presentation and petitions from local residents after years of demand hindered by the war.
At the Monday meeting the Burlington efforts were praised for raising 15000 dollars, a lunch room, a library, and a rest room for teachers. Delegates reported on the state convention, the Asheville Teachers Assembly, and the Roanoke Rapids school survey. The group reviewed higher education concerns and set the next gathering for January on the second Monday afternoon.
Laurant and Company will present the fifth Lyceum Course number next Thursday in the school auditorium. The act includes magic and music with Mr. Fred Larson as stage manager and Mrs. Laurant on piano. Tickets are 75 cents for adults and 25 cents for schoolchildren.

At a county commissioners meeting on Monday the November 2 officers were sworn in with one change R L Dickens replacing J H Norman as Register of Deeds. Citizens protested taxes while women clubs sought a modern County Home and an advisory committee was created to visit the home and make recommendations.
Merchants in Roanoke Rapids organized a Merchants Association at the Herald Publishing Company offices. Officers elected include W. S. Hancock as president P. C. Duncan as vice president A. Norinsky as secretary treasurer and J. W. Taylor F. M. Shute S. J. Bounds and J. H. Harrison Jr as board members. The group aims to promote community welfare and support worthy movements while avoiding a cash basis for trade and pledging to extend credit where deserved.

Mr and Mrs C C King and daughter Florence visited Mrs W M Hockaday Sunday. Miss Mamnie King stayed with her mother over the weekend. Miss Minnie Powell visited her sister Mrs Joe Shaw. A large crowd attended the Community Service Program at the school building Saturday evening. Miss Washburn returns after Christmas Holidays. Miss Ethel Leatherwood led the Sewing Club at New Hope School and the girls show enthusiasm and good work. Welcome to Mr and Mrs C Jenkins.
Daniel Smith of Richmond Virginia and Miss Kate Allison Daniel of Weldon were married by Rev. Lewis N. Taylor at All Saints Episcopal Church on Wednesday evening at seven. Mr Smith is connected with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.
