Lakey Dies After Roanoke Avenue Crash
Linwood Lakey 21, eighth Halifax County traffic victim this year and second in August, died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital from injuries after an automibile truck collision on Roanoke Avenue near the old canal at 11:10 Tuesday night. Lakey, of Roanoke Mill No. 1, was riding on a car left running board driven by Robert Clay when a truck driven by Otis Taylor struck, throwing him under the truck and fracturing his skull. He died about 3:00 Wednesday morning after initially being treated as not seriously hurt. His father J. W. Lakey of Danville, Va., was summoned.
