Dollton Village Board Sees Police Cutbacks And Budget Probe

The Dollton village board approved eliminating two police officers with Chief Klaege kept for night duty and two specials for day protection. An experiment with the fire siren linked to the telephone exchange was approved with Bell Telephone cooperation. No water rate increase was decided yet pending cost checks. A formal accounting demand against former Village Collector Albrecht was deferred pending audit results. Protest over locomotive whistle blowing drew action to report offending engines.

Ivanhoe Civic Notes and Local Updates

The Ivanhoe Board of Trustees meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 8 p.m. at the village hall, with broad invitation to all residents. The Lincoln Avenue School adds an extension with a dedication Friday at 8:00 p m. Hon Francis G Blair State Superintendent will deliver the dedication address. Blair has spoken here before praising local achievements and the community is urged to attend as the enlarged auditorium seats over six hundred.

Dolton Voters to Decide on City Election Law

Posters in Dolton announce a November 6 general election vote on the City Election Law. County Judge Jarecki's signature and a petition filed September 6 show more than one eighth of village voters supporting the measure. Death of Gustav Schramm at 74 in Riverdale

Gustav Schramm 74 of Riverdale died last Monday evening at County hospital. He will be buried today from his 18874 Wentworth avenue home with services at Immanuel Evangelical Church Dalton at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Oakland cemetery Dalton. He leaves two daughters Mrs Herman Volkman and Mrs Arthur C Mullen of Riverdale and many friends. He was a widower having lost his wife three years ago and lived with daughter Mrs Arthur C Mullen.

Miss Hazel Kasten and Alberta Wesse of Dalton left Monday for De Kalb to attend the State Normal College. Mrs. Jacob Berger of Fairhault Minn. died. her husband Rev. Jacob Berger assisted recently at the funeral of his sister Lena Walkerly. Grand Trunk’s International Limited narrowly derailed near Thornton junction but kept from a collision with the Dixie Flyer. no serious injuries. Kensington reports ongoing kidnapping probe for Billy Ranieri though the boy was released. Riverdale 188th street paving status remains unsettled. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lau of Riverdale leave for a twenty day trip to Duluth and Minnesota points. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pfotenhauer spent the weekend in Dowagiac, visiting F. Mastenbrook at Diamond Lake Cassopolis.

Farewell Lunch Honors Miss Elsie Wagner on Upcoming Marriage

Hammond Lumber Company staff held a noon luncheon in the dining room for Miss Elsie R. Wagner before her marriage to Mr. A. J. Darling of Elmira New York. The surprise event featured remarks by Assistant Manager Rutledge and General Manager MacMillan and a gift of a sterling electric percolator with cream and sugar set. Wagner will move to Elmira next month to begin her new home.

Form Berger Fire Co Eng Co No 2 of the Dolton Fire Dept last Wednesday at the Berger school. Walter Nowak was elected president with H Faden as vice president and captain, Al Steinke secretary, and M G Reitz lieutenant. The group, formed by Berger citizens with village board and fire marshal Kipley’s help, aims to protect life and property and equip soon.
