United States Commissioner to Speak at Dalton School Dedication

Lawrence G. Derthick will deliver the dedication address for the new Thornridge School in Dalton this Sunday at 2 p.m. The U S Commissioner of Education is rarely able to attend such events and will visit the area for the ceremonies. An open house will follow for the public.

Garage Fire Strikes Lincoln Avenue Property

Dalton firemen responded Sunday September 4 at 3 45 PM to a garage fire at 14733 Lincoln Ave involving a structure owned by K. Stevenson. No injuries reported. Fire officials investigated potential causes and secured the scene.

Dedication of the St. Mary Addition at Riverdale School

The St Mary school in Riverdale held a Sunday dedication for a new addition expanding to 18 rooms with 19 nuns and 8 lay teachers. Principal Sister M Dolores leads a staff of 27 as enrollment rises to about 803 from 680. Priests and former pastors attended including Rt Rev Msgr Felix Kochnowski Rev John Liebreich Dominiq Diederich Edward Baschart Rev James Kummerer Rev Harry Gregowski and Rev Wm Fisher. A dog bite incident at Thorntonerdale involved 7-year-old David Foy of 13819 Stewart Riverdale who was bitten on the right index finger by a dog owned by Norman Burns of 13824 Tracy Riverdale. The dog was impounded by the Riverdale Police.

South Holland Board Awards 63rd and Wausau Project Bids

South Holland trustees announced bids for road and utility improvements on 63rd street and Wausau street. Hueltt Corp, Tinley Park, sewer and water work for about 11 248 dollars. Rated Construction Co, South Holland, 819 733 dollars. Village share about 4 380 dollars, township covers the balance. Council will seek a larger Chicago water allotment as population grows.

St Mary School Adds Classrooms In Dedication Ceremony

At the dedication of the St Mary school addition Rev Edward Baseheart Rt Rev Msgr Felis Kochnowski Rev Thomas Kummerer and Rev John N Weiler attended. The school enrollment rose by 125 to about 805 students with five new classrooms a principal's room a lay teachers room and new washrooms added from remodeling part of the gym.

Four Injured in Riverdale Crash at Halsted and 134th

Four people were injured in a Sunday morning collision at Halsted Street and 134th in Riverdale. Fred J. Pacius 23 of Maplewood Chicago waited at a light when his car was rear ended by James Williams 35 of Wabash Chicago. Pat Castellano 19 of South Elizabeth Chicago, a passenger, suffered neck and back injuries. Williams Will Smith 39 and Nathan Brown 49 were treated for head injuries at St Francis Hospital Blue Island. Williams had stitches on his lip.

Art Fair Sunday In Ivanhoe

The Ivanhoe Junior Woman's Club invites residents to an Art Fair on Sunday September 18 from noon to dusk at the Ivanhoe Park Field house Riverdale. Nearly 50 amateur and professional artists are expected to exhibit works including oils pastels scratch-board drawings and whittling.

Riverdale Board Revises Zoning to Limit Large Apartments

Riverdale Village Board votes to reclassify parts of the old town as a B-2 district prohibiting apartment buildings with more than two units above the basement and restricting occupancy to under four families.
