Fall activities begin at Riverdale Park District

Park District Superintendent Dick Popper announces fall programs at Riverdale Park. Registration opens Monday September 26 from 1 to 3 0 p m for a ten week hat making course directed by Mrs. Lucille McCarthy. The course starts October 3 in the new fieldhouse. Other offerings include a Wednesday story hour for preschoolers, a Wednesday Retired Group meeting with pinochle and refreshments, educational movies on the first and third Thursday of each month, teenage dances, and a record hop on Saturday September 24 at 7 30 p m with 75 cent admission.

Police Charge Teens With Forgery in Suburban District

Five youths and a 15 year old girl were arrested by Harvey police for passing bogus checks in Roseland Dolton and South Holland. Suspects admitted to writing checks for 40 and 37.50 then cashing them at clothing stores and supermarkets before fleeing in a borrowed car. Court date set for Tuesday September 27 at 2 pm in Harvey.

Police Seek Stray Black Dog In Riverdale Bite Incident

Douglas Yamak aged two from 13843 School Street Riverdale was bitten on the forehead by a stray medium sized black dog on Wednesday September 14. The dog has not been found and the boy started rabies shots. Anyone knowing the dog’s whereabouts is asked to call Riverdale police immediately.

Three Armed Robbers Take $247 From Tavernkeeper

Riverdale police report an armed robbery Thursday night at a tavern on West 138th Street. Three men entered, demanded beer, and ordered the bartender to surrender cash. They fled with about $471, plus two bottles of scotch and a six pack of beer.

D R Women Host Brunch for Club Philanthropies

Mrs. Milan Herzog of the Dalton Riverdale Woman's Club will host a brunch at her home 14909 Irving on Tuesday Sept 27 from 9 to 12 for members and guests to benefit the club scholarship fund and other philanthropic efforts. Silver offerings will be received. Judith Fike, 14607 Grant Dolton, currently receives the four year scholarship. The club supports the Occupational Therapy Workshop at Oak Forest and the Illinois Cottage at Park Ridge School for Girls. It also aids the Marquette School for Boys in southern Illinois and contributes to rehabilitation and education programs for delinquent youths.

Ridge Dedication Set for October 4 at Cottage Grove Dalton

Thurmadge High School dedication ceremonies at Cottage Grove and Sibley Boulevard in Dalton are scheduled for Sunday afternoon October 4 at 7 o clock. Pred T Ehlert, president of the board of Education, announced. The project began in August 1957 and the building has been in use since February 1960 with minor construction remaining. The dedication address will be by Honorable Lawrence G. Derthick, United States Commissioner of Education since 1936. He previously served as Superintendent of Schools in Chattanooga and has earned honorary degrees.
