A South Holland correspondent thanks the Chamber of Commerce and local friends for a holiday box sent to Manila Bay sailors. He recalls wartime years 1944 45 and enemy shelling, notes gratitude for planes and protection, and credits South Holland with supporting the service members who kept the crew safe.
Abel Dykhuizen of 15315 Vincen neg road died Wednesday at home. A retired laborer born in 1869 in The Netherlands, he was 76. Funeral Saturday at two from DeYoung's chapel with Rev. Jaco Blaauw officiating. Survived by daughter Mrs. Zwaantje Norden of Phoenix and two sons, John of Fort Oaks and Henry of Ross, plus ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Frank Kars owner of Sulphur Springs Service Station found the shop broken into after opening for business Wednesday morning. Entrance was via a window with large doors at 159th street opened for the loot. Over $250 in merchandise including cash cigarettes candy and tools stolen. The Roosevelt PTA will meet Wednesday Sept 19 at 7 45 pm in the school dining room. The committee urges all parents to attend. Ten third grade girls directed by Miss Cook plan a musical for the evening with additional entertainment to follow.

The Protestant Reformed churches hosted the fifth annual Young Peoples Convention in South Holland on August 29 and 30. Delegates from multiple states attended with Gertrude Holleman Alece Lanting Jennie Zandstra and Enes Van Buren chosen to represent the Sand Holland Young People Society. A banquet closed the event with plans for next year in Hudsonville.
