Navy and Marine Vets Receive Discharge Honor
Local Navy and Marine veterans with over four years of service return to civilian life with honorable discharges. Herman G Horn, CBM, son of Mr and Mrs Gustave A Horn, was discharged Sept 10 after 1941 to 1945 duty in the Atlantic and Pacific. Kurt J Ackermann, discharged Sept 9 at Great Lakes after nearly five years overseas, served aboard USS Adams in the South Pacific. Sgt. Leo L Rocky Michalski was discharged Sept 5 after four years overseas in the Marine Corps and two campaigns in the South Pacific. he married Dulcie Mason in 1944 and now resides in Riverdale with his family.

Winners Named in Dalton Park Model Plane Contest
Winners were announced for the Harvey Strato Air-Cats model plane meet at Dalton Park last Sunday. Top honors went to A. H. Requarth of Michigan City with N. L. Koeh also of Michigan City and E. K. Waters of Chicago among the top finishers. high speed honors went to Wilfred Orr of South Bend at 96 mph, followed by Alf Requarth and N. L. Koeh. The club also awarded runners-up and prizes, thanking the Dalton Park Board for the excellent grounds.

Harvey Elks Mark Mortgage Burning in Four Day Celebration
Dolton and Riverdale Elks members join a four day event at the Harvey Elks home to burn the mortgage on the 1917 three story building. Past Grand Exalted Ruler Floyd Thompson speaks at the Wednesday meeting as the mortgage is burned and a class of candidates is initiated. Open house and dinners feature the schedule with public programs and dancing to follow. The lodge also purchased $20 000 in war bonds amid preparations.

Driver Injured in Halsted Street Collision
Frank Puchla aged 65 of Chicago sustained a deep cut above the eye and was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey after his southbound car on Halsted Street near 144th Street struck a car ahead of it. The other driver was Lydd Bringle 46 of Chicago whose vehicle rear end was damaged when Bringle slowed suddenly.

Pilots Move to Tokyo as Third Transport Plane Lands in Japan
Lt. Joseph Cohen, chosen to pilot the third American transport to land on Japanese soil, is now in Tokyo as special staff pilot to generals. He previously evacuated wounded, carried paratroopers and supplies, and has been in the Pacific since last October. His wife, Betty Bender, hails from Riverdale, now Hollywood, Florida. Lt. Robert D. Henderson, part of the C-47 crew that landed in Hong Kong, serves with the first combat cargo squadron in China. His wife is Ruth Lane.

Captain Mohr Returns After 22 Months Abroad
Captain Henry Mohr arrived home from Fort Sheridan on a 30 day leave after twenty two months in the ETC with the army intelligence division. He earned six battle stars and is the son of Mr and Mrs William Mohr of 308 Hast 136th St Riverdale. Also on hand to greet him were his wife and their young son Henry Jr whom he met on arrival. He will report to Camp Ritchie Md after his leave.

The Riverdale department fought two alarms last Sunday at 5 25 am for a carload of matches on the I H B railroad causing 500 dollars damage and again at 2 50 pm for rubbish burning beneath the Illinois Central Riverdale station. The Dalton department answered a Saturday 1 30 pm call to Thermo Proof Insulation Manufacturing with only slight damage.
