Valparaiso University Scholarship Awarded to Local Student
Frederick Langenberg of Riverdale, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Langenberg at 119 East 146th Street, has been awarded a Valparaiso University scholarship for the upcoming fall. The award is one of several given by the university board to high achieving students. Valparaiso University, a private Lutheran institution near Chicago, expects enrollment to reach about 2 800, a record high.

Dolton Police Nab Large Car Thief Gang After Chase
A gang of car thieves operating in the Calumet region was busted last week by Dolton Police and nearby agencies. Early Monday August 28 Officer McCormick found a 1961 car abandoned on 147th street, then halted a four‑occupant pursuit that led to a 1954 vehicle. The driver rammed the squad car, Sgt. Peterson leapt to safety on the hood, and officers pursued to 136th and Sheffield where the car was left abandoned with a loaded 38 revolver inside. Investigators traced a 1954 vehicle license to E Clark of Hammond then Portage Indiana before arrest. A birth notice follows.
