Citizens form group to curb Thorn Creek pollution
Several hundred prominent residents from South Holland and nearby towns met at the village hall to combat pollution of Thorn Creek and the Little Calumet River. The Izaak Walton League organized the gathering with officials and civic groups from Glenwood, Thornton, Dolton, Harvey, Chicago Heights, Riverdale and beyond pledging support.

Wm. Lawrenz of Dalton was bitten on the right leg by a dog at work near Haney offices last Friday. the wound was cauterized and the outcome hoped for. The dog belongs to a nearby family that had snarled at two colored men recently on the track. The Dalton M. E. church Ladies Aid will meet Sept 8. The Dalton post office closes at 10 am Labor Day.

Dolton Girl Dies After Bonfire Accident
Julia Kason six years old died at Ingalls Memorial Hospital Harvey from burns when her dress caught fire while playing near a bonfire after railroad box cars were burned. Her 11 year old brother suffered burns while trying to help. An inquest was held and funeral services are planned with interment at St Casimer's Cemetery.
