Dolton Board Eyes Snow Removal Equipment Bid

Trustees Schubert and Smith attend Illinois Municipal League Convention. At the Dolton Village Board meeting President Harris presided and decided to advertise for bids on equipment to remove snow from village sidewalks. Caterpillar Tractor Co repr emphasized power of the tractor with an eight foot plow attachment. board agreed cleaning both sidewalks and streets would be too much for one plow.

Boxing Show a Hit at Buda Athletic Club

Several hundred local fans witnessed a strong boxing exhibition at the Buda Athletic Association clubhouse in Harvey last Friday night directed by Harry Gilmore Jr. Scalie Miller of Riverdale Acme Steel faded to Sug Malino of South Town in a fast three round bout as Miller struggled with the slippery ring floor. Riverdale and Dalton supporters crowded ringside and anticipation builds for the next bill on Friday December 16 staged by Gilmore Jr.

Fire at Riverdale Bakery Destroys Car

Two boys attempting to fill a gas tank with a lantern caused a blast that destroyed the car behind Riverdale Bakery. A neighbor pulled the alarm box, bringing four Chicago fire companies to Riverdale. Firefighters arrived after six o'clock to find no further danger as the vehicle had already burned.

Dolton Health Clinic Under Chicago Tuberculosis Institute

Health clinics will again be conducted under the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute at the Dolton Health Center in the village hall. Clinics run 10 to 12 a m on the third Friday each month for those seeking services, with Miss Lehman the relief nurse in Dolton on Tuesdays and Fridays. The nurse also oversees hiring services at the Bowen school with office hours 1 to 2 on Tuesday and Friday. Next clinic is scheduled for December 16.

Man Kidnapped Prohibition Snooper Found Slain Near Blue Island

Arthur G. Hartz, alleged dry snooper, was shot and found on a drainage canal bridge near Blue Island after three men abducted him from the Alfalfa Gardens Cafe in Lansing. Police probe links include prohibition enforcement officials’ names found on Hartz and possible ties to a conspiracy case involving Calumet Park and other Dolton figures.

District 148 voters approved a $50,000 bond issue and school addition plans in a largely unopposed election. Heavy taxpayers supported the propositions, authorizing new classrooms and a suitable gymnasium for Lincoln Avenue school, with splits shown at polling places R1 and Highlawn.

The Riverdale Board met in regular session with all members present. Trustee Ortel reports the sewer contractor has nearly finished work under the B&O and PRR tracks and main sewer work should wrap in 2–3 weeks. Property owners complain about street conditions where sewer is laid. a new effort will push for state aid paving 138th Street. Village Attorney Propper to discuss with County Board. Riverdale to Pave Way for New Six Storefront Building

The old Dutt building on Leyden avenue is being torn down to clear space for a six storefront structure. The west end room will house the Riverdale Postal Station. Sam Gensburg builds, plans include curbside sidewalk finish and ornamental street lights. Robert Hanchman holds the contract and excavation is underway to rush completion.

Judge DeYoung Undergoes Goitre Operation in Mayo Clinic

Judge Frederic R. DeYoung of the Illinois Supreme Court traveled to Rochester Minnesota with Mrs. DeYoung and Mr. J. McGlashen for treatment by the Mayo Brothers. He underwent goitre surgery on Wednesday afternoon and reports indicate he is recovering well.

Mrs Elizabeth Jennings dies at her son Edward's home at corner Fredericka and Irving avenues aged 86. Funeral services set for Monday at 1 30 PM at the house with interment in Oaklawn cemetery family plot.
