A 1884 voter poll in Thornton Cook County lists many registered electors from the second district. The register, found during Masonic Lodge remodeling, preserves names like Artune Frank Berger Balsiger Bottger and many others, noting October 14 and 28 1884 as registry dates.
Last Saturday Frank Zula and his wife spotted a suspect in Washington Park Chicago. They helped arrest Big Tom Gollub as he tried the trunk fortune gag on a new victim while Nick Uzelar already faced jail. Both con men are now in custody and a trial outcome awaits in days.
A collision last Saturday morning between a Pennsylvania flyer and a Chicago bound bus killed three and injured eight. Dense fog on Sibley Boulevard between Dalton and Calumet City blamed for the crash, with Chicago papers noting similar incidents and urging caution in foggy driving.
Lorena Brown of Chicago and George Behrndt of Riverdale married at 5 p m October 31 by Judge Albrecht of Dalton. The ceremony took place at the groom's home at 138th street and Leyden avenue. Behrndt’s father owns the delicatessen at that address.
AWeidner family reunion this week includes Mrs Mary S DeTurk and daughter Minnie of Reading Pa guests at the Weidners. Mrs DeTurk marked her 74th birthday on Wednesday November 2 and Dr Weidner celebrated his 71st birthday the same day. The community notes his enduring vitality and long active career echoing a hopeful, peaceful later life.
Philip Gallegos of San Jose Costa Rica, a young attorney, spent four months with his brother Dr Gallegos and family in the United States to observe the country language and customs. He departed on Tuesday evening from New Orleans by boat for home and expects to reach Costa Rica in about nine days. He follows political and financial matters closely and aims to gain a clearer view of the American spirit amid contemporary tensions with Latin America.
At a recent meeting the Dalton Village Board opened four bids for paving Pennsylvania Adams Jefferson and Monroe in Maurer subdivision. John Mackler Co. submitted the lowest bid at 64262.96 and will begin work in spring with engineers estimate 69700. The board discussed traffic lights and expected action from Public Service Company on White City lights. Sidewalks in Maurer subdivision and Indiana avenue at 146th street were completed.
Clarence Stomp and Ruth Schaefer were married Thursday evening November 3 at the Methodist parsonage in Dalton by Rev. A A Myers. The bride wore pink flesh crepe de chine. maid of honor was Dorothy Schaefer and bridesmaid Minnie Schaffsma. Best man was Harley Roney. The couple hail from Dalton Riverdale pioneer families and receive many wishes.

Riverdale Volunteer Fire dept banco party November 16 at the village hall. Immanuel Dolton Ladies Aid hosts a fundraising chance November 10 in their church basement. The Dolton theatre presents The Yellow Robe November 17 and 18 with tickets from Lukens Drug Store noted November 10. In a Riverdale Park Sunday double bill, the Waucons trounced the Pascoe Boosters 13 6 after a strong game by Hedtke Needles and Roush. The Dodgers lightweight defeated Homewood 12 to 6 as both teams wore new jerseys and played with Big Ten like tempo.
Mrs Fred Kort nee Minnie Stahnke died at her daughter Mrs Edwin Slicer home 381 Fredericka street Dalton last Monday. Funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p m from the residence with interment at Mt Greenwood. She leaves husband one daughter Myrie Mrs Edwin Slicer of Dolton three sons Elmer Alfred of Dolton and Edward of Chicago two sisters Mrs Harry Klink and Mrs Anna Pinger and one brother Edward Stahnke.
American Legion Paul Gall post holds an important meeting at the clubhouse Tuesday evening with all members urged to attend. The committee elected at the project will report and final action may follow. The executive and special committees will also meet at the clubhouse Monday evening.
