Students rehearse a two act comedy with political themes for performances on November 3 and 4. Cast includes Ivadel Osterhuis of Lansing Bill Olthoff and Harriet Wiersma of South Holland proceed through final blocking.
The Pointer endorses Edward J Derwinski for re election in the 4th District praising his straightforward approach to world and national issues. It cites his Washington record praise from both parties and his international service in Warsaw in 1959, urging voters to back his candidacy.
Jim Schumacher of St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church South Holland announces the Harvest Time Dance at 8 p.m. November 5 at the Knights of Columbus Hall Lansing Indiana. Ronnie Rogers and his orchestra provide entertainment with proceeds for the St Jude building and expense fund.
A laboratory school for Sunday School tours on the new curriculum of the Reformed Church will be held at the Dalton Community Church in the evenings of November 4, 15 and 16. Miss Elsie Stryker and Rev. Harold Ver Berkmoes will be present. Laboratory classes on each grade level will be taught by these experts to show curriculum action.
Riverdale Park District will launch a new children's theatre with a Nov 26 11 a.m. debut featuring the Cole Marionettes in King Midas and the Golden Touch. Subsequent shows include Shoemaker and the Elves Circus Punch and Judy and Galati Dancers. Lucille Cole directs with her husband George Cole supervising touring marionette companies. Season tickets go on sale Nov 12, 16, and 19.
The First National Bank in Dalton The First Trust and Savings Bank of Riverdale and the First National Bank of South Holland will remain closed on Election Day November 8. They will reopen and operate normally on Veterans Day November 11.
Chis Rigoni, 28, of 14922 Chicago Road Dolton was hospitalized at Ingalls Memorial Hospital Harvey after a banding machine fell on him while at work on Thursday afternoon October 20. Dolton Police report a possible broken back.
Clarence F. Gentzle owns and operates the Shell Gas Station at 142nd and Indiana in Riverdale. Known as Mick ey or George by friends and customers, he previously ran a bus station opened in March 1947 and has roots in Chicago’s Roseland area.
The Dramatic Club of Lliana Christian High School presents The Gurls in 509 a two act comedy on Thursday and Friday evenings November 3 and 4. Harriet Wiersma portrays Mimzi the niece of a wealthy aunt Ivadell Osterhuis. Bill Olthoff plays Pusey a Missouri Baptist professor with a New York assignment as he visits the two ladies in a hotel. Tom Elsinga is Old Jim the hell boy and Don Becker is the National Democratic chairman. Directed by Mrs. A Kort tickets from students or GR 40515 for reservations.
The First Aid training course sponsored by the Civilian Defense Corps of Dalton will meet on Monday November 7 at the VFW Post Home 14908 Chicago Rd. Ed Enright is the director with the session set for that date.
An appeal to area residents asks for blood donations for Mrs. Jennie Schreurs, 63, of Riverdale, who underwent surgery at Cook County Hospital and may need more surgery. Any blood type will be accepted and added to Cook County’s blood bank. Donors should contact her daughter Mrs. Geneva Ten Hoven at 13997 School VI 94651 to arrange donations.
Six people were injured in a head on collision Saturday on Sibley at Michigan Avenue, Dalton. Injured include Thomas Wiltrakis of 15628 Kennicott Phoenix with leg abrasions, Marjorie Renstrom of 14225 Wallace Riverdale with leg contusions, Dan W Jacobs of 600 E Riverview South Holland with chest and nose contusion, and Nancy Bates of 14422 Michigan Riverdale with severe eyebrow and forehead lacerations.
Burglars entered John Connell's Delton home between 7 10 and 8 45 Friday Oct 21 stealing coins an 8 mm camera two nominee purses and cigarettes valued at 335 38. The front door was used for entry. Injuries were reported to Gladys A O Connell and Michael O Connell who were treated at In galls Memorial Hospital.
