Concrete Streets For Maurer Subdivision Plans

The Dolton Board met in regular session, approving 25 street lights for Sibley and Lincoln avenues near Oakland cemetery. The Local Improvements Board set May 31 for a public hearing on concrete streets and water extension in the Maurer subdivision, with bidding sheets at Trustee Gentry’s home and a $25 deposit refundable upon return.

Poppy Day Drive Set Across Illinois May 27

Poppy Day on May 27 aims to raise funds for war veterans across Illinois. Riverdale Dalton and South Holland expect strong support with about 75 workers and involvement from the American Legion Paul Gall Post, Women’s Auxiliary, and Girl Scout Troops. Poppies will be sold publicly for 10 cents and up, with proceeds aiding hospitals, orphans, cemeteries, and burials.

Supers Set To Battle Ashland Robins Next Sunday

Local fans await a standout baseball matchup as the Supers challenge the Ashland Robins. The Supers return to form after a 11 to 4 win over Latek A. C. last Sunday and feature strong pitching by Struss and a solid batting day from McGrain. Weather was cold but fans turnout remained solid as Stienhauer led off in three innings.

Young mother dies in tragic Belmon t blaze at 1351 Belmont

Ida Zoller Riley formerly of Riverdale and Mrs William J Riley died after a kitchen fire caused by naphtha oil explodes at a bungalow purchase down town. Firefighter bystander saved the 2 year old Gloria as flames enveloped the mother. Inquest blamed the oil can and naptha. Funeral set for Saturday at St Alphonsos Southport Ave. Interment St Boniface.

Riverdale Girl Scout Investiture Highlights Local Scout Badges

Girl Scout Riverdale Troop No. 1 held its annual investiture at Bowen school with Miss Ruth Pease officiating. Several girls earned citizen and Tenderfoot pins, hostesses, and special badges while others advanced to second class. The troop celebrated with games led by Miss Pease and welcomed visitors Mrs. Dieck and Mr. and Mrs. Colebourn. A Dal ton Troop meeting is planned for Monday evening May 23 at 7 30.

The South Holland Izaak Walton League leads a push to stop factory pollution along Thorn Creek and Little Calumet River.
