A horse belonging to expressman William Britteo on Clark Street drank several buckets of spilled wine from a broken cask. The intoxicated horse reared and trotted after a cop seeking more sugar as a crowd gathered and traffic halted. The horse groaned in its stall later, Britten claiming the animal vowed never again.

Fire destroys Schmidt land building in Highlawa
A structure on the Schmidt land facing 138th Street in Highlawa burned last Sunday between 1 and 2 am. About 160 dollars of farm machinery housed inside was destroyed. No fire insurance. Report says several colored men slept in the building during nearby sewer work and investigators suspect arson.

Mrs A Anker Dies After Stroke in South Holland
Mrs. A Anker died Monday morning April 19 1910 after weeks with a paralytic stroke. She was buried Thursday afternoon with Rev VanVerWerf conducting the services. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family as friends mourn with them. Tennis Gouwens has returned home from Primston for a few days and will depart soon for a four month stay in Wyoming. B Blink of North Holland attended the funeral, a near relative. A party for local youths occurred at the village hall Thursday night. Nicholas Renkema and Elizabeth Van Zanten recover from diphtheria. Nick Paarberg bought cows at the stock yards last week. Rev Wm Wolvius of Fulton preached at the Firateformed Church Sunday, and Rev Wm Beckering of Custbury is scheduled next Sunday.
