The Southern Cook County Booster club hosts a better roads dinner on Friday evening May 16 at Homewood where community reps will map a five year road building and widening program. Taxpayers Seek Writ to Force Tax Board Action

Calumet township taxpayers file a writ of mandamus to compel the board of review to hear 8,500 tax valuation complaints ignored amid rush to issue 1928 tax bills. Attorneys expect a court fight likely to reach the state supreme court. a demurrer may be filed as the first step while bills may go out to the public.

Taxes Collected As Bloom Township Starts 1928 Levy

Tax collection begins in Chicago Heights and Bloom Township with a $4.72 per $100 rate, higher than 1927. First tax books arrive, clerks under Manuel Sultan handle payments for about ten days before moving books to Chicago. Delinquency penalties apply. Nearby towns show reduced rates and Bloom Township expects two weeks to finish collecting the 1928 taxes as real estate valuation more than doubles from 9.21 million to 18.05 million dollars.

Mohawks Extend Winning Streak as Ivanhoe Opens Strong

Ivanhoe opened its season with an 8 to 8 tie in a pitcher’s duel, Nelson doubling for the first hit off Klay Mulley who pitched seven strong innings. Bruegman hit a homer and fielded well, with J Albrecht tossing two innings of shutout relief. The next game Sunday pits Ivanhoe against the B B R Cubs at Turner Field, with Gore slated to start for the Cubs and a strong Ivanhoe battery of Mailby, Lambert, Albrecht and Nelson.

Dolton Scout Tenderfoot and Second Class Ranks Reported

Dolton Troop 1 completed Tenderfoot and Second Class requirements at a Board of Review last Friday led by Scoutmaster John Kollar. Riverdale Troop 797 and Dolton Troop 1 conflict over a rally date, causing an indefinite postponement. Dr Kollar, a new school board president, donated badges for Signaling First Aid and Outdoor Cooking to outstanding scouts.
