At the April 22 canvass four ballots were in dispute between Fred Waterman and Carl Belz. Waterman declared winner by two votes after three for Waterman and one for Belz. The meeting approved new appointments including Lieb as treasurer and Albrecht as village collector, and Harms welcomed as president.

The Public Construction Company of Hammond won the Calumet City deep sewer project with a bid of 1,270,000, 205,000 under city engineer George Consoer’s estimate. Other bidders include United Construction, Subway Construction, Proudfoot, and John Mackler. work to start within two weeks.

Nellie Jacobsma Rites Held After Long Illness
Nellie Jacobsma died at her son Charles Jacobsma’s home in Dalton on May 2 1927 at 5 40 p m aged 68 4 15. She emigrated with parents John and Gertrude Ericks to America in 1852 settled in Roseland then Dalton and married Hina Jacobsma who died in 1899 leaving four children and two daughters. Survived by sons Charles John Garrett and Bertha Meyer and 16 grandchildren. Funeral at home and church conducted by Rev Muilenberg with interment at Oaklawn cemetery Thornton. She belonged to the First Reformed church of South Holland.

Riverdale Girl Scouts Celebrate Gold Eagle Awards
Eleven Riverdale Girl Scouts earned the Gold Eagle award at the Spring Festival, the highest honor requiring first class rank, twenty one merit badges, and a letter of recommendation. About 685 girls from 56 troops participated in the program. Chicago and Cook County total Girl Scouts number 5633 with 188 troops, 28 forming. Riverdale troop plans an investiture this month and Dolton invites joining girls 10 to 18 at Miss Stanczik’s home Friday May 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Giant white owl shot and captured near Chicago Heights
A large white Alaskan owl, five feet across, was shot Saturday on the Gyger farm in East Chicago Heights. It reportedly seized a young sheep before being brought down by birdshot. Joe Knutson shot the bird, and it was displayed in Chicago Heights before being moved to the Dixie Pet store window on Chicago road.
