Kurz and trustees Milo F Day Keith H Syria Frank P Kramer were seated. Hanihan was absent. An ordinance barred alcohol sales for 24 hours after a state end of organized resistance declaration.

Section Hand Killed in Illinois Central Accident
Tsadore Redd a section hand on the Illinois Central railroad was killed Friday morning near 187th street after a hand car jumped the track. He fell and was struck by the trailing car. he died within minutes. An inquest held produced a verdict of accidental death.

Reduced Home Canning Sugar Allowances Announced
OPA lowers per person home canning sugar to 15 pounds from 20 and caps family units at 120 pounds for eight or more, effective May 1. Five extra pounds may be used for jams and relishes. Applications to ration boards accepted through October 15. Stamp No 36 covers five pounds May 1 to August 31, while Stamp No 35 remains valid to June 2 for overlap.

Two Days Left for Clothing Collection in Dalton
The committee led by Rev. Ph. H. Bassler and Herman Rodenburg thanks the public for gifts of wearable clothing for war stricken Europe. Police Reserves Continue Brake Check Program in Riverdale
One hundred cars mostly owned by residents underwent brake checks and decelerometer tests last weekend at two lanes on Atlantic street in Riverdale and Ivanhoe. Most brakes were in good order with only a few cars failing to meet 30 foot stop at 20 mph. Reserves plan more checks next weekend Saturday 2 to 6 and Sunday 10 to 3 as part of a nationwide program by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Poppy Day Observed To Honor War Dead
Poppies will be worn in Dalton and Riverdale on May 26 to honor Americans who died in World War I and World War II. The American Legion Auxiliary Paul Gali Unit led by Mrs. Mary Ferguson and Mrs. Margaret Meginnis organizes the event to raise funds for disabled veterans and their families. Poppies are crepe paper made by disabled veterans at Hines hospital under the Sinois Rehabilitation department.

Guard member Staat helps form Roosevelt funeral honor guard
John F. Staat FC-2/c of the U S Navy served in the Roosevelt funeral honor guard in Washington D C as a representative of the armed forces. Seaman Staat who spent 18 months in the Pacific is stationed in Washington for training and his wife joined him. His brother Lt Garrett Staat Jr is stationed at Maxwell Field Alabama and recently traveled to Washington for a brief visit.
