Saint Patrick lived around 396 to 469 and is linked to Dumbarton Scotland by some legends. He was captured by Irish Picts and sold into slavery in Ireland, later escaping and studying for the priesthood in France before going to Ireland to convert the population. The tale of driving snakes from Ireland is cited, though snakes never inhabited the island. March 17 is widely observed as St Patrick's Day.
