Dolton Village awards water and sewer contracts to O'Brien Bros

The Dolton Village Board, presided by President Harris, opened bids for water and sewer improvements in the Berger section near Lincoln avenue and Sibley boulevard. O'Brien Brothers Construction Co. offered the lowest bids at 67 982 38 for water and secured the contract, with Pastoret Dorsey Barrett as rivals for sewer work. Engineer Suhr vouched for O'Brien as financially responsible, confirming prior Sanitary District work completion.

County Recorder Haas Dies in Campaign

County Recorder Haas died last Tuesday and will be buried today. He was a popular official with many friends. John W. Jaranowski is a candidate for the office and may be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to fill the unexpired term. Chicago papers note temporary appointment could go to Jaranowski or Joseph P Savage, village attorney for Dolton.

Ivanhoe Club plans meeting and ball club push

The Ivanhoe Club schedules its bi monthly meeting for Monday at 8 in Branigar Building at 144th and Stewart to boost active and honorary memberships. A ball club manager, Mr Nonneman of 14117 Dearborn, is to select players and uniforms. a slogan contest offers $1 for five words. A March 19 gathering follows the meeting to form the team and organize activities for summer.

Record Flight to Challenge Endurance Mark by Jack Atkinson

Legion Night at St Pauls School Auditorium March 22

The Fourth District American Legion meeting at St Pauls school auditorium on Thursday March 22 draws hundreds. Edward Kinney announced full arrangements, featuring a nine piece band led by a famed young bandmaster and a drum and bugle corps. Carl Maurer arranged top speakers to address legionnaires with messages of importance as Commander Raymond Baumgartner urges strong attendance before District Commander Al Boyle and visiting guests.

Vivian Dickelman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ed Dickelman of Riverdale, had tonsils removed at Blue Island hospital on Tuesday. A Riverdale child of Mr and Mrs Theodore Reidh is homebound with rheumatism for five weeks. Mrs T H Putnam and Mrs Olaf LeMond of Dalton travel to French Lick Springs for the weekend. Henry Wiegel and Robert Hubert, both of Riverdale, announce the birth of daughters at Roseland Community hospital on Saturday, March 10. Hank and Bob, Acme Steel coworkers, celebrate. William Dreshall leaves for Ford factory training in Detroit. Acme Steel had its biggest February month. Jacob Lieb, father of Joseph Lieb of Dolton, was buried in Chicago. Nicholas Klinkhammer is ill at 13918 Wabash Ave, Riverdale. Mrs Caroline Prill is ill at home on East 138th St, Riverdale. L Wayne Emory, former Boys’ Work director, will join Y M C A staff in Anderson, Ind as assistant secretary and director of religious education starting March 20. An appendectomy was performed on Mrs Stanley Prymas of Riverdale at Roseland Community hospital.

Bill Boards leans on paving and boards in Riverdale

The Riverdale Village Board held a regular session approving paving Indiana Avenue and 138th Street near Halsted. Water drainage and sewer work were planned, with repairs to the 138th street sewer and Panhandle and B&OCT crossings. A billboard ordinance was requested by Ivanhoe residents, and candidate lists for the state legislature were read by party.

Birthday celebration for Bessie Coleman and D. D. Girls Club meet

Bessie Coleman niece of Ray Baumgartner celebrated her birthday Wednesday afternoon March 14 with playmates and friends dancing and a niece lunch. She received many gifts. Her aunts and uncles attended. Miss Ruth Reich hosted the D. D. Girls Club last Monday evening March 12 at her home with a new game and lunch, all reporting a delightful time.
