Thelma Anderson, a Riverdale beauty parlor owner, lost an eye after an Auburn auto was struck by a freight at the Indiana Harbor crossing on Indiana avenue. Several relatives and passengers suffered injuries as a light engine and caboose passed westbound. the victim was rushed to Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Locals urge railroad to improve protection at the dangerous crossing.

Police officer Emil Maatz found a Chrysler five passenger sedan in a clay hole on West 188th street near Ashland avenue Wednesday night. Ira Hatings dragged the car up the embankment to morning. The Matt Garage reports the car was stolen from 5705 South Ashland avenue Wednesday evening. The owner was located via license No 167710. The 1 and 0 on the plate were blacked out.

Brave Boy Scout Saves Life After Train Crash
Phillip Tuttle thirteen of Normal boulevard used his first aid knowledge to save himself after a Chicago and Eastern Illinois train struck him and severed his left leg. His fellow scout Frank Hendrix aided while the train crew stopped. The incident happened near 67th and Wallace streets as they walked home from Englewood High school. Tuttle applied a tourniquet with a rail spike and held it during transport to St Bernard’s hospital. His parents arrived as he cried briefly.
