Pastor of 2 Local Churches to Retire
The Rev. Milton S. Freeman, long time pastor of the First Methodist Church in Dalton and the Ivanhoe Community Church, will retire from full time ministry after next Sunday, June 24. Dolon Youth Hurt When Car Is T-Boned by Bus in Dolton
Earl Bergold of 709 East 144th Street Dolton suffered head and shoulder injuries after his car was struck by a Southern Limited bus at the Chicago Street and Sibley Boulevard intersection in Dolton Saturday at 5 50 p m. He was unconscious and taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital Harvey. The bus had 24 passengers. 16 were badly shaken or bruised. Police and a cadet nurse aided, the bus was towed to Chicago and the car to Hastings Dolton.

Four veterans of the European Theatre of War come home as planes and ships speed shipments. Lt. Milford C. Haddon arrived in Dalton to reunite with his parents after service in France Belgium and Germany with the 45rd anti air artillery battalion. Lt. Walter Ortel Jr returned to Riverdale after eight months overseas and 50 day leave. Cpl. Robert Kappes arrived in Dalton on furlough from Casablanca via Miami then to South Bend and home after 16 months overseas in North Africa and Italy. Sgt Harold Lau returned to Dolton on a 30 day furlough after 14 months in Europe earning four battle stars and a Purple Heart.

Runaway Youth Found After Fire on Illinois Central Platform
A fire under the Illinois Central platform at 187th Street in Riverdale led to a raid by railroad and Riverdale police. A 14-year-old boy from Phoenix, Illinois, was found asleep in the compartment after five nights away from home and admitted using a candle for light. He was taken to Juvenile Detention Home for questioning and released to his father after confirming the stay.
