Dolton Soldier John Burch Returns Home From WWII Prison
Sgt. John W. Burch son of Mr and Mrs John Burch of Dolton Illinois was liberated by the Scotch Guard of the British 2nd Army on April 28 after being held near Walendorf since December 17 1944. He arrived home June 6 and shared experiences of prisoner camps long marches box cars air raids and a hunger ration. He will marry Miss Elizabeth Burke June 30 at St Leo's in Chicago.

Arthur Mullen Awarded Air Medal for Ploesti Raid
Belated official recognition for T/Sgt. Arthur C. Mullen, B-24 ball turret gunner and armorer, awarded the Air Medal with citation for meritorious achievement during the Ploesti raid on August 10, 1944. He and his crew bailed out, were held as POWs in Bulgaria, and released on September 8.

Only B card holders with essential occupational driving exceeding 475 miles monthly qualify for increases, with a new cap of 650 miles. Methodist Conference to Open 106th Session in Chicago
The Rock River Methodist Conference's 106th annual session begins June 20 at the Chicago Temple. Pilot Returns From 23 Months Overseas
1st Lt. Kenneth Rex Vanderaa called his parents in Dalton to report his return to the United States after 28 months overseas. He flew 64 missions over Germany France Belgium and Holland and 10 missions as a B 26 bomber pilot in the Aleutians before joining Gen Patton's Troop Carrier Command. He earned the Silver Star the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation. He landed in Puerto Rico May 28 and is now based in Miami Beach as chief crew dispatcher. He praised Florida but said Dalton Ilinois is best.

Captain Henry Propper, pilot of a B-24 Liberator with the 392nd Heavy Bombardment Group, returns home to Dalton on a 30 day leave after completing 28 missions over Germany. He has earned the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross and will report to Fort Sheridan after leave.
