Peter A Anker 65 Dies After Public Service in South Holland

Peter A Anker longtime South Holland leader and former village mayor died at his home on June 14 at age 65 after a paralytic stroke two weeks earlier. He served 33 years as village mayor and 12 years as township collector, shaping tax policy and public life. Surviving are his widow Nellie Gouwens, a son Rev Harry P Anker, a daughter Winnie, three brothers and many relatives. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church with large attendance including local officials and the Thornton township board. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery Thornton.

The Departure of Peter A Anker

Last Saturday morning June 14 our friend and benefactor Peter A Anker died after a paralytic stroke that began June 2. He was a model friend who never spoke an angry word even when unfairly accused. Friends from near and far mourn the loss of this gentle man who offered soothing replies. (Continued on last page)

Shower Honors Astella Metevia Before Nuptial Voyage

A bridal shower for Astella Metevia hosted by Lucille Kern and Marie Kinney on May 27 at Kern home included a luncheon and gifts. Jane and Marie also hosted a separate shower at her own home with banco games and lunch, followed by the bride opening gifts and well wishes for happiness.

Krueger Couple Celebrate Fifth Wedding Anniversary

A gathering at Mr. and Mrs. Aug Krueger’s home on June 18 marked their fifth wedding anniversary. Guests enjoyed dancing with wooden shoes, a generous lunch, and gifts including an carved end table. Favors went to five attendees and well wishes flowed for many future celebrations.

Harvey Mounts To Sixteen Thousand In Ten Years

The 1930 census shows Harvey at 16,388, up 7,172 from 1920. Death of Riverdale Store Owner John A Schaack at 66

John A. Schaack died June 14 at his Hanna Indiana farm after selling his Riverdale store for health reasons. The remains came to Bachman chapel and funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 30. Interment in Waldheim cemetery. He leaves a widow, son John, daughter Margaret, brother William and sister Pauline Slaughter. He suffered liver trouble for years. He was 66.

Five Typhoid Damage Lawsuits Arise Against East Moline Meat Market

Following a late year typhoid outbreak in East Moline, five damage suits each seeking 5000 dollars have been filed against a local meat market owner. Plaintiffs allege quarantine violations by the owner who, while ill and quarantined above the market, allegedly handled meat and served customers, spreading the disease. The outbreak affected 15 or more cases.

State Auto Collections Show Large First Five Months Rise

The Secretary of State William J Stratton reports dramatic gains in state auto collections for the first five months of 1930. Total receipts reached 17 784 291 11 up from 10 053 994 69 last year driven by a surge in automobile department licenses and driver registrations.
