Dolton Riverdale Schools Close. Bowen and Lincoln Ave Hold Graduations

Dolton and Riverdale public schools close next week with Bowen Lincoln Avenue and Highlawn offerings. Bowen school graduation Thursday June 19 in the auditorium features selections, recitations, songs, diplomas, and a class gift. Lincoln Avenue program includes multiple class of 1930 and 1931 presentations, diplomas, and benediction with a final recessional.

Tax Meeting At City Hall Friday Night

City hall hosts a tax payers meeting Friday at eight to discuss the present tax situation. Senator Arthur Heubsch a Governor appointed tax commissioner will attend alongside Representative Propper and other state legislators. The session, postponed from Wednesday, invites all taxpayers to learn first hand about the troublesome issue.

Lamp Renewals Not Affected by Rate Reduction

The Public Service Company of Northern Illinois says a recent rate cut for residential electric service, effective August 1, will not change lamp renewal policy. Local manager E. J. Larkin confirms 60 and 100 watt lamps will still be renewed without charge while other standard prices remain well below retail. New residential customers will be served under the same arrangement.

Henry Koehncke longtime Riverdale mason dies aged 70

Henry Koehncke a retired mason contractor and Riverdale resident for over 50 years died last Sunday at his home 13774 Leyden Avenue Riverdale aged 70 years 1 month and 20 days He was born in Germany April 19 1860 emigrated to America at 19 and settled in Riverdale He married Sophia Rampke May 20 1884 and nine of their ten children survive plus nine grandchildren and one brother Funeral services were held at his home and Immanuel Church Dalton Interment was at Oakland cemetery He played a major role in local brick buildings and cement sidewalks remaining in good condition after over 80 years of wear

Man Held Over Gun Battle Appears in Harvey Court

Alfred Phrommer a 27 year old of Hammond faced a grand jury on four counts stemming from a running gun battle with Chief of Police George Swanson. In criminal court he gained a trial continuance to June 18. Bond set at 80000 remains unmet. He has been in county jail since April 2. His father visited Harvey to confer with police and offered a hopeful remark.

Dog License Notice for Riverdale Village

Waltonians Feed the Fish at South Holland

A committee of the South Holland Chapter Izaak Walton League led by Jacob P. De Young N. J. Paarlberg John Van Oostenbrugge and James B. Ellis County Forester planted fish food plants and wild rice in clay holes of the neighborhood this past week. The holes lacked vegetable foods necessary for fish growth and this food is now supplied.

Ivanhoe Garden Club Plans August Flower Show
