Bloodhounds Track Suspect in Birke Shooting Case
Bloodhounds from Decatur tracked a ladder entry into Joe Birke's room at 189 Western Avenue after a 2:40 a.m. assault. The trail led to John Filipick of 2 West Canal Street, with police pressing for a grand jury bound over on assault with attempt to commit murder. Birke’s condition remains serious but improving with medical care.
