Fire Destroys Alky Plant in Riverdale Home

Anton Stro sinski spotted smoke from a Riverdale State Street residence and alerted the fire department. Firefighters saved the building from a basement alky operation with four large mash hogs heads and a cooking unit. strangers renting the house disappeared, leaving property unclaimed while authorities planned destruction of the still under prohibition guidance.

Hundreds inspect a newly exposed alky plant as a distillery operation is dismantled. Prohibition officers confiscate a 200 gallon still and 44 barrels of mash after raiding a site at 14636 Wallace street on the Calumet river.

Twenty Years Ago with the Pointer

Mrs. Ernest Hanschman left for Saxony Germany last Wednesday to visit her old home for three months. She was accompanied to Lawrence Massachusetts by her husband son Harry brother Otto Wagner and Miss Augusta Ludwig. Hanschman will sail next Wednesday. The group will visit Lawrence for several weeks before returning home. Max Staab received a birthday surprise last Saturday as children and grandchildren gathered at his Dalton home for a family reunion over the holiday. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Francis Schultz Wm Schultz Estella Thomas Chas Staab and family Joe Staab and family Theodore Staab and Henry Forsberg of Chicago. Herman Wesse won a clothes suit at Bowse's saloon Riverdale last Saturday. The next drawing is at Fleith's on Saturday June 4. John Stamborsky is the local agent. Rev W E Cissna of Morris Hill Ind is the new Dolton pastor.

Harvey mayor hosts growing menagerie in park

Dr Charles B Alexander of Harvey gave Mayor Frank W Bruggemann a cinnamon bear weeks ago. The animal sits in an abandoned pheasant cage in the city park as gifts of muskrats pheasants cats squirrels rabbits mink and even Madam Queen’s skunk flood in. The mayor says a zoo may emerge and notes the bear is friendly to him as he manages an expanding correspondence load.

Mrs. Asher Parker hosted the Ivanhoe Garden Club meeting on Monday June 2. Peter A. Anker of South Holland and Thorn ton Township collector suffered a nervous breakdown and a partial paralytic stroke while at work in the village hall. He collapsed after dizziness and is now under his physician care with hopes for a quick recovery.

Poppy Day Sales Benefit Disabled Veterans

The American Legion and Auxiliary Paul Gall Post No. 303 thank volunteers who sold veteran made poppies and buyers of poppies and pies on Poppy Day. They sold 3000 poppies raising 371.82 with 219.01 net income for disabled veterans in hospitals.
