Kepler and His Three Laws of Astronomy
Impaired vision did not hinder John Kepler a German astronomer whose fame rests on three laws of planetary motion. Planets orbit the sun in ellipses with the sun at one focus and equal areas swept in equal times. The square of a planet’s revolution period relates to the cube of its mean distance. He relied on Tycho Brahe for precise observations and published The New Astronomy in Prague in 1600. He died nineteen years later.
