After a decade of entanglements the Steger piano factory shuts its doors this week. Production in recent years focused on office furniture and radio cabinets while piano making largely ceased. All employees received layoff notices, with few retained workers. Dixie Woodworking may remain in part of the building as D Amico brothers lease the south unit for macaroni production in Chicago Heights.

With five regulars out the Arrows lost 7 to 5 in ten innings to the Riverdale Cardinals. Nehring struck out seventeen as he blanked the Arrows on two hits after Abby Ballard was hit by a relay throw. Cards erupted for three runs in the fourth and two in both the ninth and tenth to clinch the win. Next Sunday the Arrows meet the Steger Cyclones at Steger.
