Taxpayers in Thornton Seek Relief From High State Tax Rates

County districts moblize against Mr. Cutmore's tax figures arguing for roll rechecks. Mayors Bruggeman and Jaranowski lead delegates from Dalton, Harvey, Dolton and area in demanding accepted BIelfeldt figures and possible court action to force reductions and a special legislative session if needed.

Riverdale TaxPayers Meet to Protest Unfair Taxation

Several hundred Riverdale residents attended a meeting at the village hall last Tuesday evening. Attorney Otto F. Reich, chairman of the Calumet Township Tax Payers Association, reviewed work by committees and pledged all legal measures to protect taxpayers from unfair taxation. Mr. Baum spoke, and Local Chairman O. V. Huntley said he works daily at the County building to secure a square deal within the committee’s power.

August Kamradt Dies Pioneer Calumet City Tailor

August Kamradt aged 83 long time Calumet City resident and tailor died Sunday January 12. Father of Paul Kamradt ex mayor and August Kamradt Jr of Calumet City he lived with his son and retired about 15 years ago. Funeral was held Wednesday to Holy Cross Cemetery.

O Rourke Endorsed for Congress by Harvey Meeting

At the Southern Cook County Democratic Club at the American Legion in Harvey on Sunday January 12, J. J. O Rourke was endorsed for Congress from the Fourth District. He long served as assessor of Thornton Township and six years in the State Legislature. Jerry O Rourke, popular with the underdog, is seen as a strong candidate to secure a Harvey post office. Michael L. Igoe spoke, representing the Fifth District and South Park, noting eight townships attended.

Bryant Named President Of Pullman Trust Bank

Percy Wilson & Co. takes title to fifty acres on the north side of Sibley boulevard between the Illinois Central depot and Indiana avenue near Harvey. They purchase from E. N. Heggie for about 100000 dollars. The land adjoins the Wilson Ivanhoe development and will be subdivided as Waverly Manor with Ivanhoe streets extended through the new subdivision.

Nurses Sleigh Ride Party At Ingalls Memorial

Student nurses from Ingalls Memorial hospital enjoyed an annual sleigh ride on Tuesday night January 21. Chaperoned by Miss Reichman and Miss Wetzel, the group included Shilling Fike Wessels Hocking Clark DeVan Gore Cameron O Johnson Soderberg Livesay Paul Randell Erffmeyer Carter Bishop Dengler Salmi Bart ran Allan Diekman Kleber J Johnson. Sleds were provided by Mr Shilling and refreshments followed at Ingalls Hall. All reported a fine time except Miss Soderberg who felt cold.
