The Riverdale board, with President Dickel presiding, discussed unpaid 1929 auto licenses and set a March 1 deadline for 1930 renewals. They heard a New Chicago petition for street lights and debated a dust proof coal shed ordinance, which was tabled for the next meeting amidst divisions.
Riverdale officials met to decide funding for Ivanhoe street lights after Branigar Bros. will stop paying the bill February 1. The board plans to take over lighting costs at intersections and mid blocks to prevent Ivanhoe from going dark Saturday night. The main issue is linking to Public Service Co and arranging connections.
Christina Ehlert Stutz reim born January 15 1852 in Germany died January 24 at her daughter’s home 805 East 136th Place aged 78 years 9 days. She leaves eight children William Charles Herman Frederick Lillian Marie Emma Bertha 22 grandchildren one great grandchild and many relatives. Funeral at St Pauls Church conducted by Rev Kemnitz with interment Oakland Cemetery.
George Engel longtime Ridge resident died last Monday while sitting at the wheel of his car in Chicago. He complained of not feeling well and expired before reaching the doctor. He leaves a widow two brothers John of Riverdale Ernest of California a sister Mrs Clara Balsiger and many relatives. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Auburn Park Methodist Episcopal church with interment at Mt Greenwood cemetery.
Local items report rapid progress on Charles Petersons new house at 136th place. Several residents make visits, travel to Chicago, and host gatherings. A Stork visit adds a baby girl to the community. many ladies attend clubs and dinners. attorneys and engineers take trips for business and family reasons.
Simon Schoon led a party of 47 neighbors and friends on a sleigh ride last Tuesday evening. The group paused for a minute at Propper's Corner before continuing, with details continued on Page 5.
William Niemeyer Sr. longtime Riverdale resident and Acme Steel blacksmith died Wednesday January 29 at St Francis hospital Blue Island after a short illness. He was born November 20 1861 at Crete Illinois married Elen Behrens and had five children. He leaves a widow three sons a brother and many friends. Funeral services are February 3 at 2 and 2 30 at St Pauls Lutheran with interment at Oakland cemetery.
The Acme Steel Co. donated a large snow plow with a catapillar tractor to clear Indiana avenue and 137th street, improving access for factory traffic and easing snow congestion. Mr. McMurray and the Acme Steel Co. receive praise from The Pointer for civic initiative.
Mr and Mrs D W Thurston of Detroit visit Mrs James Stanczik’s family then head to California with a June return planned. Mrs J J Connors wins crochet raffle. Mrs H S Bock hosts birthday party for a Libertyville guest list includes Riverdale and Dalton attendees. An oval Pyrex dish left at the Community Fair. owner to contact Mrs H S Bock. Also noted are illnesses and recovery, a newborn at Blue Island hospital, and the dismantling of the J H Winterbuthan and Son cooper shop after 40 years. Fiber details and a St Mary’s church fundraiser with a Card and Bunco night are announced.
Miss Minnie Drefhall and Mr A J Yeatman wed Sunday January 26 at Immanuel Church Dalton officiated by Rev Kries. Bride wore blue crepe with white roses and lilies of the valley. Attendants were Miss Anna Dreshall and Mr Nicholas Fray. They will reside in Chicago.
Arrangements for a February 1 1930 meeting of the Clean Streams Committee of the Cook County Chapter Izaak Walton League at 12 30 PM in Room 118 Sherman Hotel. Luncheon is $1 25 per person. All League members invited to review the general situation in Cook County and the Calumet District.

Representative William F Propper announces his candidacy for re nomination to State Representative of the Seventh Senatorial District. He cites votes against the Gasoline Tax Bill and for bills aiding schools and old age pensions, noting he is not on the Chicago Sanitary District payroll. The Illinois Municipal League commends his assistance on league favored measures. The South End of Cook County urged support to retain the candidate in the Legislature.
Acme Steel's 1929 annual statement shows net income of 2,558,214 after taxes and interest, $9.80 per share on 274,487 shares. Stockholders approved increasing authorized capital to 500,000 shares for a 25 percent stock dividend payable February 15, with a quarterly cash dividend of 1 per share. Current assets and liabilities are 3,873,402 and 1,126,530, with year-end profit and loss surplus of 3,325,663.
A man defied smallpox quarantine, left the quarantined home despite orders. Health officer Carson sought a judge to settle the dispute. He has served nearly forty days in jail in lieu of a $200 fine to emphasize quarantine’s importance.

They claim tax abolition will revive frozen markets and avert mass foreclosures by banks and bondholders.
